Top flight football in South Africa pays quite well. In this country it’s a well-known fact that many soccer players in the biggest teams earn hefty salaries which they often spend on the latest flashy cars. This trend has continued over a number of years and has seen a number of players fall into the trap of financial ruin as a result.
In 2015 soccer star Teko Modise made some controversial comments when he stated that PSL players do not earn enough to save for comfortable retirement. This led to speculation that the top earning players in the league are earning anything between R400 000 and R450 000 a month. This is contrast to recent reports that surfaced that revealed that there are players in the soccer league who earn a paltry R5000 per month.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Jabu Mahlangu has advised: “So many players fall into the trap of buying fancy cars and clothes without saving anything. I think it’s time that players learn from our mistakes and do things differently.”
Some of the most popular cars driven by footballers on the top flight circuit include GTIs, Ferraris, Range Rovers, BMWs and Mercedes Benz sport cars.
These are some of the Kaizer Chiefs players’ cars:
Siphiwe Tshabalala owns a black SUV Mercedes Benz C63 AMG worth over a million rand. He also has sponsored vehicles including the Lexus IS350 worth R450 000 and a Range Rover valued at R800 000.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane owns a BMW X6 which has a price that ranges from R947 500 to R1 327 000.
Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo drives a BMW 3 Series Coupe which can set you back R350 000 or more.
Tsepo Masilela drives a Ferrari which costs over R3.6 million, while striker Barnard Parker drives around town in a Range Rover Sport which costs over a million rand.
