The ongoing power cuts by South Africa’s energy provider Eskom has negatively impacted on the country’s small businesses. This has prompted Nkosana Mvelane from Pimville who said that ANC members decided to take action because small businesses were suffering in the area. Mvelane argued that they wanted answers from Eskom. She cited that they understood load shedding, but felt like Soweto is taking the brunt of it
She called for action such that people can see that the ANC is doing something. ANC regional secretary Dada Morero said it was their responsibility to take the concerns of the people back to the parastatal. He said that they had come because Eskom disrespected them.
Small businesses Ready to find solutions
Molefe said it welcomed the peaceful manner in which Sanco and the ANC Joburg Region articulated their concerns about the recent prolonged power outages in Soweto.
He said that the demands clearly indicated that Sanco and its alliance partners are willing to work with them to find a lasting solution to the electricity issues that face the country.
He added that he welcomes the fact that Sanco and its alliance partners would like them to roll out education and awareness campaigns about the benefits of prepaid meters, and that they would like them to provide prepaid meters to tenants who live in rented backrooms so that each tenant can pay according to their consumption.
