And you thought trolling was just for faceless entities – Apple commemorates Earth Day by trolling Samsung in an ad. In a full-page spread that appeared on Tuesday’s edition of the United State’s Metro, Apple invites its competitors to copy some of their ideas and innovations on sustainability, the same way many are copying their brand designs.
Also featuring on their website, the ad tells of Apple’s latest sustainability undertaking: “we want to leave the world better than we found it” read the site’s landing page. Coming on the back of Apple’s legal battles with Samsung over mobile patent claims, one can’t help but chuckle at the ad(s). Facing damages of over $900 million, Samsung is accused of stealing Apple features for their Samsung Galaxy Nexus III devices. Back in 2011, Steve Jobs had already accused Google’s Android operating system for stealing some features from Apple’s iOS.
A Greenpeace report on the technology industry and sector, Clicking Clean, recently praised the corporation’s efforts and singled them out for their “significant improvements in their energy transparency” and named it the most improved company in the report.
Apple also recently announced their “Better” campaign featuring a 90 second film outlining the company’s efforts in going green. According to the film, Apple will use less packaging, recycling products and embarking on building projects powered by solar energy.
