Fairytales are the kind of stories we grew up with as children, whether they were read to usby our parents before bedtime or you read it at school as a prescribed book or chose to read it at home or at the library. They were just somehow always a part of us.
And still are even today whether you continue the ritual and read them to your own children, fairytales are just one of those stories that everyone knows and has a favourite.
Walt Disney knew this all too well when they made fairytale characters in books to come alive on the big screen many years ago and even still today.
With the most recent starring Emma Watson former child star of Harry Potterfame who’s transitioned with ease to legitimate actress with her announcement that she’ll play Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
She tweeted: “’I’m finally able to tell you…It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’.
‘My six year-old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma x’.”
This will be a fourth coming live action adaptation of the fairytale by Disney who for the first time looked to the classic fairytale in the 80’s 90’s resulting in it becoming a popular film along with the Little Mermaid.
For many years fairytales have provided a rich source of inspiration for the Disney studioand the delighted actress joins a list of Hollywood actresses who’ve been cast as lead roles in fairytalessuch as Walt Disney’s first full length animated featureSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was recently re made in 2012 to Snow White and the Huntsmanan American dark fantasy action film based on the German fairy tale starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.
Also the 2014 American dark fantasy film, Maleficent, the film is a live-action re-imagining of Walt Disney’s 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty, and portrays the story from the perspective of the antagonist, Maleficent played by lead actress Angelina Jolie.
