SABC is launching a new talk show this month after ending Three Talk with Noeleen. From Monday 4 May, a female-centric local talk called ‘Afternoon Express’ will air during the 4pm weekday timeslot.
The show will be hosted by Bonang Matheba, Bonnie Mbuli and Jeannie D.
Modelled around the format used by talkshows such as The View, Afternoon Express will feature commentary and discussion by the ladies as a live broadcast.
A fourth presenter will join the existing trio within a month when the top 3 winners are announced from the Presenter Search on 3 reality show.
Afternoon Express is produced by Tswelopele productions, which is behind the successful Top Billing, Presenter Search on 3 and other television shows. The talkshow has been introduced in an effort to lift SABC 3’s viewership in the late afternoon. The show is set to have a big social media interactive component and will cover a range of female-interest topics including fashion, cooking and finance. It will also include interviews and inspirational stories. Another feature of the show will be a live musical performance, much like Expresso in the morning slot.
“I am really excited to be stepping into a new terrain with SABC 3 and the opportunity to co-host with Jeannie D and Bonnie,” says Bonang Matheba.
“I’m so thrilled to be one of the hosts; it is a great concept and there is so much to look forward to,” says Bonnie Mbuli. “I don’t think there has ever been a more exciting time for television in South Africa- I can’t wait.”
Patience Stevens, managing director of Tswelopele Productions says, “We hope that making a date with Afternoon Express will be making an appointment to have fun.”
“We have three of the country’s most talented presenters, we are very excited to have this opportunity and we are looking forward to this challenge.”
