To prepare for a job interview you have to make a great first impression. In addition to making sure that you’re dressed properly, there are other ways to prepare and make sure that you have the best possible chance at a successful interview.
Know your audience
You need to have a lot of knowledge about your target company and its product. Learn as much as you can about the company. Search for information on the internet and speak to family and friends who may be familiar with the company. Get a sense of “who” the company really is.
Print copies of your CV
One of the first steps to preparing for a job interview is having a concise copy of your CV. You’ll want to have your resume ready, especially if you don’t know how many people will be on the interview panel.
Dress accordingly
Keep your look conservative and smart. Make sure that you don’t wear wrinkled clothes. Have a good haircut, a shave and makes sure your fingernails are manicured and well-groomed.
Anticipate questions you’ll be asked
Think about what questions you might be asked. Be ready to answer questions about who you are and be honest – don’t embellish. Think about skills and accomplishments which might be of relevance to the job at hand. One of the best ways of preparing for a job interview is to have as many mock interviews with a friend as possible.
Think of questions to ask your interviewer
This is a good way of showing your level of interest in the job for which you are being interviewed. You should come up with at least three thought-provoking questions to ask your interviewers which will be a good way of projecting your enthusiasm for the job.
Be personable
Keep things simple and short. Shake hands and exchange pleasantries and maintain eye-contact. Employers often hire candidates they like best.
Get enough sleep
Avoid arriving flustered and panicked by making sure that you get enough rest.
