The South African-born entrepreneur who invented PayPal, Tesla Motors and Space X has carved a sweet niche in North America, and is proof positive that people from down south can achieve amazing things with their lives.
What can we learn from the man, that can be applied in the process of building wealth?
1. He has an impressive work ethic
Musk has said that a successful entrepreneurial venture will require 80-100 hours of work a week. That works out to about 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, which is impressive, and means sacrifices will be made. But as you can see, a 40-hour work week is probably not gonna cut it, if you want to really be wealthy.
2. He is not afraid to take chances
A PhD dropout, like Larry Page and Sergei Brin of Google, he decided instead to chase his entrepreneurial dreams, and looked to creating useful things to impact the world more effectively.
3. He believes in the underdog
One of his quotes is, “If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it.” Musk’s philosophy and outlook on life can be summed up as making the decision to try, even in the midst of great trial. This is an important cornerstone of being a successful entrepreneur.
4. He used his savvy to look for market opportunities
Seeing the importance of the Internet and the possibilities for global commerce, he co-founded PayPal as a secure way to transact online in a borderless environment. In the years since his foray into e-commerce, he has created a successful line of electric cars and is looking at opportunities for space travel.
5. He is a player, not a spectator
Musk clearly believes that action is king, and in the pursuit of wealth, it would be.
Be inspired.
