Enjoy a run or walk through 11 600 hectares of unique environment that is true highland habitat when you partake in the Golden Gate National Park’s Half Marathon.
The Golden Gate National Park is not only famous for its accommodation but while you enjoy your stay you can also partake in the sporting event, which allows you to take in the spectacular scenery that the area is known for.
The Golden Gate National Park is a nature reserve in the Eastern part of the Free State secretly tucked away in the rolling foothills of the Maloti Mountains and is home to rock formations, stunning sunsets, wildlife of black Wildebeest, Eland, the rare bearded vulture Lammergeier, the rare bald Ibis, Blesbok, Springbok, the threatened Oribi, Burchell’s zebra and some 140 bird species.
During the Golden Gate half marathon race spend less time checking the track in front of you as the race is run on tarred roads through the Golden Gate National Park allowing you to relish in the spectacular scenery in front of you.
It is a great way to participate in sport and keep fit. Go the distance in the race while feeling challenged enough without needing the same level of training required in a marathon.
Medals will be awarded immediately after the race to all finishers as well as prizes for top three finishers and age groupers. There is also a fun run.
The race is an initiative by the South African National Parks and the Department of Environmental Affairs
