The internet can be quite daunting for many people. But the truth is that it’s made life so much easier on so many levels. Google is probably the most popular search engine around. Knowing how to use it sometimes isn’t enough though. The trick lies in being able to use it effectively. Here’s a guide to using Google effectively:
- Be specific:
This is probably the most important step towards becoming a Google search expert, and it’s quite simple. All you have to do is be as specific as possible. When you’re searching, try to include a make, model, specific name. If you’re searching for something technical, include the version. Or if you’re searching for a book series, mention the volume, and Google will do the rest.
- Check your Spelling:
When you’re searching for something on Google, remember that technicalities do matter. Remember that there are millions of searches on different items and misplacing a letter in your search could bring up something totally different to what you were looking for.
- Watch how you phrase your questions:
A simple way of ensuring you’ll get the answers you want is by asking Google your question just like you would ask another person. So, if you’re looking for information on how to create a website, phrase it by including the words ‘How to’ within and you should be headed in the right direction. Type in exactly what you want and Google will give it to you.
- Don’t stop trying:
If you try a search and it doesn’t quite give you what you have in mind, try going about it differently. Try paraphrasing your search to include keywords of what you’re looking for. Essentially, it goes back to step 1 above. Try changing your word order and make sure you’ve followed step 2.
The most important lesson through this is that Google is your friend. Use it effectively and you’ll get what you need in no time!
