We have all read and heard about the Y Generation also referred to as Millennials. And you who are reading this right now might probably be a textbook Millennial or know of one who is; whether it’s your colleague, friend, sibling or child. But do you know of the sub group of younger people who already exist within the millennial generation. I’d like to tap into the iGeneration.
A quick intro iGeneration only know digital therefore unlike Millennials they do not just understand technology they get it.
They grew up in a world where at just two they knew how to navigate a tablet better than their older sisters or brothers or the person who afforded to buy it for them their parents.
The ‘i’ stands for the fact that they are truly an internet generation as they are the first generation to grow up with digital tools at their fingertips, think iPads, iPhones and iPods.
While the Millennial generation are known more for their twang and fluency in the English language through being afforded pricey private schooling and college the iGeneration are fluent in the language of technology as while generations before them were taught on chalk or white boards and projectors most iGeneration are been taught at school with tablets in their classrooms.
Having grown in a world of virtual they are known to value these 5c’s communication, community, collaboration, creativity and change. And they most known trait is to multitask preferring to receive information quickly as they switch from one technological gadget to the next maneuvering around their social apps typing at speeds on their mobile devices, managing chats, reading their newsfeeds, sharing content, watching a video, taking selfies and posting status updates about their offline experiences.
