As more people have access to smart devices, the demand for data has risen sharply in recent years. More South Africans are looking for data-centric cell phone contracts.
Finding out which mobile data is the cheapest is a priority for more South Africans.
Which mobile data is the cheapest in South Africa?
With the latest #DataMustFall movement making headlines in recent weeks, the spotlight is back on data costs. Cellphone companies are dealing with a lot of complaints from consumers regarding excessively high data costs.
Research has shown that South Africans spend extremely high amounts of money on data costs on a monthly basis.
Telkom has made their data-centric approach the core focus of the mobile data plans.
“Data has become the central requirement for most smartphone users, so that is what we have prioritised,” says Telkom Consumer CEO Attila Vitai.
Trying to find out which mobile data is the cheapest in South Africa involves a comparison process that includes assessing how much data consumers get for their spend and how much they can get out of it.
Telkom’s FreeMe packages are currently dominating the market, giving consumers highly competitive cellphone contracts.
For prepaid customers (who are the majority in South Africa) the most they are likely to spend is about R200 on mobile data per month. This makes the 1GB, 2GB and 3GB packages the most popular packages.
Comparing packages:
For R39, customers can get 500MB of data from MTN, Cell C and Telkom. The cheapest 1GB offer is from Telkom at just R59.
If you’re looking to buy 2GB of data, MTN, Cell C and Telkom have the cheapest offer at R99, while the 3GB data package is available for R169 from Vodacom, MTN and Cell C.
MTN has the cheapest 10GB for R299, with the 20GB data deal available for R499 from Cell C and MTN.
