Last night, MTV MAMA Nominees were announced at Sandton’s swanky The Sands. The South African flag was waving high. South African musical acts, Mafikizolo and Uhuru, alongside Nigeria’s Davido, each bagged four nominations. The three musical acts are competing for the biggies, including Song of the Year.
The biggest stars from across the African continent were up for nominations in over 10 different categories, including Best Male/Female, Song of the Year and non-music fields, recognising the Personality of the Year and Transform Today by Absolut.
The non-music awards are designed in recognition and support of young, emerging and original African talent who use their imagination and creativity to bring about change on the continent.
The awards ceremony – brought to you by the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Government – in South Africa for the very first time, will be held on the 7th of June, in Durban ICC. The show will be broadcast live across the continent at 21h00 on MTV and MTV BASE.
