South Africa is known for having some of the highest data costs worldwide. As the world becomes more data-centric, South Africans are finding themselves on the back foot. Some prepaid customers are spending up to 20% of their income on data every month.
Such high data costs were the catalyst for the #DataMustFall campaign, led by radio personality T-Bo Touch.
While cellphone operators have not made any changes in response to the campaign, internet hosting company Afrihost has stepped up.
Afrihost has introduced a great data deal under the hashtag #DataMustFall.
“Our aim is to help as many people as possible get affordable mobile Data on their phones and we’re promoting 250MB data a month, until January 2017, for only R1.00- that’s data for next to nothing. It’s the offer of a lifetime, with no surprises once you’ve signed up.”
The deal is aimed at bringing some relief to those who feel they are paying too much for data.
Packages also offer protection from surprise out-of-bundle fees, and come with the best speeds available with LTE.
If you use all your 250MB of data in the month, you will automatically be capped. You then have the option of topping up with more data or you can choose to pay an out-of-bundle rate of just 10c per MB. That’s the most affordable rate on the market.
How the R1 for 250MB of data deal works:
You can use the data on an MTN Prepaid SIM.
You can use it on an MTN Contract SIM.
You can get a new Afrihost SIM, at your nearest MTN store.
You can sign up for the promotion on the Afrihost website and enjoy getting to pay only R1 for 250MB of data. The promotion runs until 31 January 2017.
