South African-born comedian and Daily Show host Trevor Noah’s trajectory in the entertainment industry has been nothing short of inspiring. Soweto-born Noah was announced as the successor to long-time Daily Show host Jon Stewart in March 2015 and has had a successful run on the show.
Noah draws in around 900 000 viewers daily and continues to succeed, buoyed by Noah’s quick-witted charm and sharp insight into American and world politics as well as various sub-cultures.
Speaking to Interview magazine, Noah said, “The first purpose of comedy is to make people laugh. Anything deeper is a bonus. Some comedians want to make people laugh and make them think about socially relevant issues, but comedy, by the very nature of the word, is to make people laugh. If people aren’t laughing, it’s not comedy. It’s as simple as that. They can laugh at different times and maybe some shows are meant to be funnier than others – some comedians are very alternative so they won’t perform for a big laugh all the time. Without the laughter it becomes poetry or public speaking or a soliloquy; it isn’t comedy anymore.”
Something that is no laughing matter is Noah’s R130 million penthouse in New York!
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trevor’s new penthouse has impressive views of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan from the master bedroom and terrace.
The three bedroom duplex penthouse in Stella Tower, for which Noah paid a cool $10 million, is located in Hell’s Kitchen.
The R130 million penthouse in New York is close to the Daily Show set and has 14-foot ceilings, wall-to-wall windows and an eat-in-chef’s kitchen.
News of Noah’s purchase of the property comes after he shared some pictures of his birthday celebration with some of his best friends, including Anele Mdoda, Sizwe Dhlomo and Khaya Dlanga.
