Nazier Paulsen, an Economic Freedom Fighters Western Cape leader is set to fight.
The politician is set to put on his boxing gloves in the name of charity. He is currently training for an amateur boxing tournament which will take place in July. The tournament will seek to raise funds for a local non-profit organisation called Maxim Kids.
“I agreed to fight in this tournament because I like what the non-profit is doing on a practical level to combat gangsterism and drug abuse,” said Paulsen.
“To go out onto the streets and target these ills head on takes commitment and courage and I want to be part of it.”
Trained in mixed martial arts, Paulsen will be fighting to raise funds for registered non-profit organisation Maxim Kids in Cape Town. The charity teaches children in townships across the Cape Flats how to box.
“We teach them the basics of boxing which translates into discipline and valuable life skills. Those who are advanced enough will box in our tournament,” said Chizungu, the organisation’s Congolese coach.
Chizungu met with Paulsen in April to begin their first training session. Upcoming sessions will be scheduled according to Paulsen’s political diary. He was impressed with Paulsen’s first session.
“He did very well because he has sport behind him. Today was about his fitness level,” said Chizungu.
Paulsen added: “Sports and politics are similar in that it requires heart, dedication and preparation.”
Maxim Kids says, “Just bring us your knives and we’ll give you a pair of gloves.”
