In recent years there have been numerous reports of consumer complaints of mobile data disappearing from their cellphones. While some of this can be attributed to ill-informed consumers, in some cases it’s been found to be because of fraudulent transactions and what some might call “shady practices” on the part of mobile network operators.
If you have a smartphone there are a number of ways to prevent your mobile data from disappearing, such as:
Assess your network’s coverage and data
Do your research so you know how much you are spending on data.
Switch to an operator that does not let you go out of bundle automatically when your data runs out.
You could choose a mobile operator that alerts you when your data is running out. Pay attention to mobile data SMS notifications.
Manually track your data usage.
You could keep an eye on how much data you’re using by tracking it according to each app and watching your internet usage. You could also simply set a limit on the amount of out-of-bundle data you can use.
Disable mobile data on your smartphone to limit your 3G and LTE data usage.
LTE data consumption can be quite heavy, so you can control how much data you use by simply switching to 3G.
Disable mobile data access on an app-by-app basis
You can select which apps to use mobile data for.
Switch off your data connection when you’re not using it. Keep in mind that apps often use data in the background.
If you have access to free Wi-Fi, opt for using that instead of your mobile data.
Turn off auto-playing and preloading videos
Log into your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts to change the settings. This can be a handy way to prevent your mobile data from disappearing.
Turn off automatic updates over mobile data connections.
Use built-in features to track data consumption
