Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar on October 4, 1989, Rich Homie Quan Flex is an American rapper and singer form Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. As a child he had an interest in poetry and he has said that he had a particular interest in reading.
While in school, he had aspirations to become a baseball player. He managed to get a scholarship from Valley State University and later he began rapping and got a job at a nearby airport. He went on to lose his job, which led him towards a path of illegal activities, such as stealing. This landed him a 15 month stint in jail for burglary.
While in jail, he changed his ways and began writing poetry again. In 2012, he began his career as Rich Homie Quan Flex, by releasing a mixtape called “Still Going In”.
Since beginning his career as a mainstream rapper, he has gone on to feature on songs by 2Chainz and YG. He also featured on the single “My Nigga” in 2013 by YG and “Lifestyle” by Rich Gang, which were both certified platinum.
Some of his career highlights include BET Awards in 2014 and 2015, while he also had the breakout hit “Some Type of Way.”
Although he has achieved considerable success with Rich Gang, Rich Homie Quan Flex aims to go platinum on his own- not simply as a featured rapper.
In an interview with The Fader, he commented:
“I really feel as if we [black people] can never consider “we made it”. Like in my mind, I’ve never made it. I’m still trying to make it. And I’m thankful. Me having that mentality is gonna only make me successful. Despite what you throw at me, despite how much you stand on my name, despite all the bad stuff you know about me, despite me breaking into houses, I’m far from that. I’m not that person anymore. And I’ve grown from that.”
Today Rich Homie Quan Flex has a net worth of $1.5 million and is signed to T.I.G. Entertainment.
